About Lean / Six Sigma

LEAN

Traditional production and service delivery tend to focus on “Mass” provision which, unfortunately, is inherently riddled with waste. Lean eliminates waste from business activities, instead focusing on optimizing the activities that add value, benefiting customers, service providers and shareholders.

Pioneered at cash-stricken Toyota in the aftermath of World War II, Lean is the key strategy driving the rise of Toyota to the global leader in automotive production, and has in recent years experienced successful implementation in service industries, including healthcare. “Lean” is a fundamental paradigmshift from traditional “Mass” manufacturing.

SIX SIGMA

Six Sigma is the quest for zero defects. Statistically, a Six Sigma process creates fewer than 3.4 defects per million opportunities, eliminating undesired variation that leads to defects to ultimately deliver products and services of superior quality.

Originally developed by Motorola in 1986, Six Sigma was a pivotal strategy in the ascent of General Electric to the World’s largest corporation. Initially developed to improve processes and reduce defects, Six Sigma has gained widespread popularity within other industries.
